Here are some recent research projects that I’m really proud to have led

DIYA

DIYA (meaning oil lamp in Hindi) is a supportive training programme that Chayn designed for the Bumble safety team. It guides them to build resilience together and cope with the vicarious trauma that arises as they respond to the thousands of reports of abuse that occur daily on the dating platform. I led trauma-informed qualitative research with members of the safety team, and the resulting insights informed the content design and delivery of the programme. I am also leading all of the Impact Measurement research for DIYA.

Domestic Violence

Rocky Books

Pro bono work.

Rocky Books are a series of digital story books that help children to cope with the trauma of witnessing domestic violence and the resulting outcomes, such as acting out at school or panic attacks. Each storybook has a coping mechanism designed for kids threaded into the narrative (one example ‘fire fists’ is pictured). I led trauma-informed research with children and parents of South-Asian diaspora living in India and the UK. We explored how relatable and useful the stories are, and I provided insights for the team to action in their new books.

Planning for death

Farewill

Farewill are reimagining the way we deal with death, and I’ve helped them on a few projects for their wills and funerals products. Speaking with customers (and celebrants) who were currently planning a funeral for a loved one, I developed insights about what it means to celebrate a life, in death. My insights and strategic recommendations fed into Farewill’s product strategy and positioning ‘A brighter Funeral’.

Sexual Dysfunction

Lover.io

I designed and led research to support this early stage start up - a ‘sex therapy’ app - in defining their consumer facing positioning and branding. This involved exploring the range of emotional and practical support that people experiencing sexual dysfunction need in the USA and UK. The app is designed to normalise sexual challenges and help couples to tackle them together - and it’s now FDA approved.

Surviving sexual assault

Chayn & Bumble

I designed and led trauma informed research to sensitively explore the stories and needs of people who have been sexually assaulted by someone they met on Bumble. I interviewed survivors and surfaced clear insights to inform the design of the ‘Bloom for Bumble’ partnership - a series of free online services that survivors are offered by Bumble, to support and empower them to heal.

Coping in prison

Ministry of Justice

I was tasked with understanding the unmet needs of women in prison in the UK - who I’ve found to be some of the most traumatised and underserved people in our society. I led the research for the design of a digital platform for them to use in their cells, to help them progress and cope while in custody and beyond. This was rolled out in 2021.

Recovery from addiction

Marigold Health

Marigold Health are building an app which offers 24/7 peer support for people in recovery from addiction. I explored how the app could better meet the underserved needs of their user base, and improve retention rates. My research focused on examining what kind of support is really empowering for people living at the intersection of multiple struggles - i.e. with health, housing, family, identity and work. I identified solutions that could be delivered through the technology itself and via the peers who moderate the chat groups.

Menopause

Peanut

I have delivered multiple research projects for Peanut, focused on supporting women through different life stages, from navigating infertility, to building confidence and connections as a new mum and more recently, entering menopause. Peanut wanted to explore menopause as a new vertical for its community offer, and I led research with menopausal women in the USA and UK to identify the challenges and opportunities for Peanut in this space.

The Peanut menopause community launched in 2021.

Suicide & Co

Pro bono work

I supported this charity to further understand the experience people who have been bereaved by the suicide of a loved one. I led sensitive and supportive research sessions which helped us to learn about the challenges of opening up about suicide as the person left behind. As part of the research I also tested the Suicide & Co ‘Conversation Guide’ and developed clear recommendations for user-centred improvements.
